Corkbeg progressed to the second round of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday morning, after a hard-fought battle with Temple Utd at Temple Park.
Temple took the lead just one minute into the game, after a loose ball in the Corkbeg box was punished. Corkbeg responded well and instantly replied with Daragh O Mahony getting on the scoresheet.

Both teams had efforts on goal, with both keepers being tested. Shortly before half time, the home side were reduced to ten men, following an off the ball incident. It was 1-1 at half time.

Into the second half now and Corkbeg looked to take control of the game, however Alan Horgan received his second yellow shortly into the second half, and was dismissed, meaning it was ten men a side.

Soon after, the home side scored again, with a neat header into the bottom corner. However, Temple lost another man to a red card, when the home side’s defender was given his marching orders for a blatant foul in his own box, which resulted in a penalty to Corkbeg being awarded. However, it was fired over the crossbar by Shane Bennett.

Corkbeg got their equaliser with 15 minutes to go, when Alan Hogan scored, to send the game to extra time.
No team really offered any real threat in extra time, so penalties it was.
Corkbeg won 4-2 on penalties, with Corkbeg scoring all of their 4 penalties, and John Manning producing two great stops to send Corkbeg through to the next round. Another MOTM performance by Dylan O Neill in midfield.
