U13 Div3 Macroom 1 Corkbeg 2
Corkbeg travelled to unbeaten table toppers, Macroom, at Towns Park on Saturday morning. Given the distance involved for the away trip, we travelled by bus, which went down well with the players and all 15 of the panel travelled to the game.
And what a performance these warriors delivered, it was simply a awesome team effort from the 1st whistle.
The Beg dominated the opening half and really kept the hosts pegged in their own half. After 10 mins, a foul on Liam, just outside the box, gave us a free kick. Jack stepped up and hit the target; the keeper seemed to have it covered, but it managed to evade his grasp and cross the line and we took a deserved lead.
More chances were to follow, as we continued to press forward at every opportunity. The corner count was climbing but we seemed to struggle to win the crosses, until a pinpoint corner from Hugh found Jack, who headed it home. 2-0 up at half time and no more than we deserved.

We emptied the bench for the 2nd half and we did lose our shape a bit. Macroom came really into it, which was no surprise, as they are a really excellent side. They got a goal back and now, we started to feel it might slip away from us.
But the lads dug deep, none more so than our “superkeeper” Kaylan who pulled off some great saves, but one in particular, where he dived low to his left to turn what was a certain goal around the post and away for a corner, was really special. And this was while carrying an injury into the game.
This seemed to spur the lads on to redouble their efforts and we seemed to reimpose our grip on the game towards the end and in fact, had another few shots – some on target and saved and another few that went wide. But we finished strong and won out deservedly against a really talented Macroom side.
There were 15 man of the match performances. We were captained by Tim O Driscoll (pictured) who celebrated his birthday on Saturday.
