U-18Div1A – Corkbeg 3 Strand Utd 1
Corkbeg’s U18’s had a top of the table clash at home on Sunday afternoon against a well organised Strand Utd .
The weather conditions were tough for both sides, but it was the Beg who controlled the game from the first whistle.
It was all Corkbeg in the first half. The whole team were confident on the ball and played themselves into a very well deserved 3-0 half time lead thanks to Cian Hegarty with a brace and Sean O Callaghan with 1 goal.
The Beg made 5 changes in the second half and were defending into a strong wind . Paul Connelly, Jack Flynn , Ryan Murray and Tom Killeen all came very close to adding to the score line for the home side .
Strand never gave up and put the Corkbeg defence under pressure for the last 15 minutes and it paid off with a long ball and the striker converted to make it a final result of 3-1 .
A brilliant performance in challenging conditions by all the lads and keeping the challenge going at the top of the league.
U15Div5 – Corinthians B 0 Corkbeg ‘A’ 6
Corkbeg recorded a hugely impressive 6-0 win away to Corinthians on Saturday afternoon.
The home team who had won all their matches before today, started brightly and played some super football. But an Eoghan Walsh front post flick found the back of the net to put the Beg one up.
Matt Warne came on 10 minutes before half time and changed the game for Corkbeg.
An impressive hat-trick from the substitute was well deserved for his huge effort throughout the game. Oscar Murphy grabbed two goals in the second half to seal a very impressive win.
AJ O Driscoll was the stand out player on the day with super performances from Aidan O Brien and Lukas Smith. Well done lads, a good start to the season. Keep it going.
U13 Div 2 – Corkbeg 1 Blarney 4
A weakened Corkbeg team held a good Blarney side to 1-1 until half time.
We started well in the second half and had some serious opportunities to score but it wasn’t to be.
Unfortunately for us, Blarney kept the pressure up and in the last part of the game, the goals came.
All the kids gave everything, just wasn’t our day. Onwards to the next game!
U15 Div 2 Corkbeg 2 Passage 2
A strong ball playing Passage team visited Corkbeg on Sunday morning. At half time we were held at 1 a piece. A cracking header pushed us to 2-1. We would have been 3-1 but the ref disallowed the goal.
Passage won a free late in the second half which they managed to get into the back of the net. It ended 2-2.
Our lads played really well and we’ve 7 points from a possible 10 so far.
Schoolgirls:
Another tough morning for our Girls U15 team in Mitchelstown on Sunday morning, as they were beaten 5-0 by Park Utd in rainy, windy conditions.
A slow start by The Beg saw them go two goals down early on and four goals down by the half time whistle.
It was, however, a marvellous second half showing by the girls, as they grew into the game and kept the home side on the back foot.
It’s worth remembering that this was only their second ever competitive game and experience is proving to be a big factor in the games so far. It’s a learning process and despite the results, they continue to improve. Keep the heads up, girls!!!
Elsewhere, Corkbeg Girls U-13 team were beaten 3-1 by Churchvilla in Kilboy, Cloyne.
